Encyclia tampensis
Seedlings (grown from seed)
Florida native species that is also found in the Bahamas. Commonly known as the “Florida Butterfly Orchid”. Lovely honey-scented flowers are borne in late Spring to early Summer. These are young plants in 2” pots that should flower in 2025. Photo #1 shows the typical flowers of this species. Photo #2 shows an example of the size plants offered for sale.
These grow well for us in our “Cattleya House”, which receives bright filtered light (2,500-3,000 foot candles) and is watered when the media dries. May be grown in pots/baskets or mounted.
